Lithuania allocates funds to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund

The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs allocated EUR 20, 000 to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) towards humanitarian assistance.

The CERF has been set up to provide UN humanitarian assistance to victims of natural disasters or armed conflict in a prompt and smooth manner. The CERF provides funding to people most in need through a network of international organizations: the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), World Food Programme (WFP), World Health Organization (WHO), etc.

The CERF is funded by voluntary contributions from donors. The main donors are UN member states. Other supporters include private donors and other funds. The viability of the CERF depends on donors' generous support. In 2017, Lithuania also allocated EUR 20, 000 to CERF.

In 2018, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry allocated a total of EUR 265, 000 for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, Yemen, Syria, Somalia, Mali, Guatemala, to help Palestinian refugees, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund.
