Tourism, culture and student exchanges in focus in Iran
On November 26-27, 2018, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania together with the Lithuanian Honorary Consulate in Iran and in partnership with the Turkish Airlines held in Tehran the Lithuania in Focus event to address tourism, culture and student exchanges opportunities for both countries.
The Lithuania in Focus event was organized on the occasion of the 100 year anniversary of Lithuania‘s restored independence and to mark the 25th anniversary of Lithuania – Iran diplomatic relations.
The programme started with the introduction of Lithuania‘s tourism opportunities. Then, cooperation among universities and student exchanges were discussed. A number of Lithuanian universities introduced themselves and the general overview of the study-in-Lithuania environment was given by Ignas Bautrėnas, representing the Education Exchanges Support Foundation. The cultural programme of the event featured pianist Daumantas Kirilauskas playing pieces by M.K. Čiurlionis and the performance of the folk group Raskila from Panevėžys. As part of the programme, an exhibition of the Lithuanian paper cutting art was opened at the National Library of Iran the following day.
The Lithuania in Focus event was attended by representatives of the Iranian public institutions, including Parliament and Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education and Tourism, also universities and private companies from the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors.
The Vice-Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania, Marius Skuodis welcomed the participants in a video message. Lithuania‘s Ambassador to Iran, Audrius Brūzga noted in his address, that it was the first time ever that Lithuania was introduced in Iran in such a comprehensive manner. "It was quite clear", said the Ambassador, "that Iranians got interested in Lithuania and now it is for the private sector to get involved to put business plans in action. The Embassy of Lithuania in Ankara and the Lithuanian Honorary Consulate in Tehran stand ready to assist companies and universities in pursuing their projects in Iran and Lithuania“.
