Event dedicated to commemorating the day of May 3, 1791 Constitution of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

On May 2, 2024, a joint festive reception of the Consulates General of the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Poland in Almaty was held at the “InterContinental Almaty” hotel, dedicated to the 233nd anniversary of the Constitution of 1791 May 3 of the Two Nations Republic. During the event the participants were congratulated by the Consul General of the Republic of Poland, prof. hab dr. Jozef Taimanovskiy, Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania in Almaty, Gvidas Kerusauskas and the acting head of the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, Islambek Raimov.

The Consul General of the Republic of Poland drew attention to the fact that the Constitution of May 3, together with the Consensus of October 20, adopted by the Great Seimas was a manifestation of a closer union of the Polish and Lithuanian peoples. This law, among other things, guaranteed that all posts common to the Republic would be occupied by Poles and Lithuanians in a 1:1 ratio. We can proudly say that the leaders of both nations and states, despite all their differences, were able to work together effectively in the decisive test of their existence. This example of cooperation and friendship between Warsaw and Vilnius inspires us this day as well.

In his speech the Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania noted that “The May 3rd Constitution is in particular important for the history of Lithuania and Poland. The strategic partnership between Lithuania and Poland was established centuries ago, and the friendly, deep relations between our peoples help to build a stronger Europe and face modern challenges. The Consul in his speech stressed that the ideals of equality and freedom, enshrined in the Constitution of 1791 May 3, encourages today to help our Ukrainian neighbors, with whom we share the historical experience of living in a single state. This is very important today, when Ukraine has been fighting with a new Russian aggression for more than two years, defending its sovereignty and freedom.”

Acting head of the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, Islambek Raimov noted that he is convinced that the joint celebration of Constitution Day testifies to the inexhaustible determination of Poles and Lithuanians to cultivate common ideals and values and will inspire further deepening of partnership, contributing to the well-being and security of our countries and peoples.

The participants of the festive reception had the opportunity to listen to the performance of „Jazz Band Youth Almaty“.

The event was sponsored by „Litbella Bottlers“ and „Jazz Band Youth Almaty“.
