Events dedicated to the memory of the May 3, 1791 Constitution of the Two Nations Republic

On May 3, an international debate was held at the Historical and ethnographic institute named after Ch. Ch. Valikhanov in order to assess the significance of the Constitution of May 3, 1791 of the Two Nations Republic. The main purpose of this scientific conference was to show that the principles of the Constitution of the Republic have a long-term legacy in the form of systemic changes in Poland, Lithuania and Kazakhstan. In scientific debates Lithuania was represented by the director of the Lithuanian History Institute, - prof. hab. dr. Alvydas Nikzentaitis.

On the same day‘s evening the InterContinental Almaty Hotel hosted a joint festive reception of the Consulates General of the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Poland in Almaty, dedicated to the 232nd anniversary of the Constitution of 1791 May 3 of the Two Nations Republic.

During the event the participants were congratulated by the Consul General of the Republic of Poland - prof. hab dr. Jozef Taimanovskiy, Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania in Almaty, - Gvidas Kerusauskas and Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty - Bakytzhan Bulegenov, also spoke the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Kazakhstan - Chazbievich Selim, - Professor of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch. Ch. Valikhanov, - Ziyabek Kabuldinov.

In his speech the Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania noted that “The May 3rd Constitution is in particular important for the history of Lithuania and Poland. The strategic partnership between Lithuania and Poland was established centuries ago, and the friendly, deep relations between our peoples help to build a stronger Europe and face modern challenges. The Consul in his speech stressed that the ideals of equality and freedom, enshrined in the Constitution of 1791 May 3, encourages today to help our Ukrainian neighbors, with whom we share the historical experience of living in a single state. This is very important today, when Ukraine has been fighting with a new Russian aggression for more than a year, defending its sovereignty and freedom.”

The participants of the festive reception had the opportunity to listen to the performance of the ensemble of Polish folk music.
