The 34th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania's Independence was celebrated in Almaty

Pleanty snow on March 14, which is not ussual for this season time of year did not prevent the guests of the Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in Almaty from arriving to the InterContinental Almaty hotel, where the 34th anniversary of the restoration of the Independence of the Republic of Lithuania was held.

The participants of the celebration had the opportunity to hear the national anthems of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Lithuania performed by jazz musicians. During the event, the consul general of the Republic of Lithuania in Almaty Gvidas Kerusauskas and the head of the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty Bakytzhan Bulegenov gave the speech. G. Kerušauskas in his speech paid attention that Kazakhstan has always been and is an important partner and friend of Lithuania. "We maintain close relations in the fields of politics, economy, trade, transport, science, and develop mutually beneficial projects. This year in Almaty, in addition to consular and economic activities, we will organize more joint events with universities and museums, especially with "Al-Farabi" University and "A. Kasteev Museum". We are also very grateful for the close cooperation with the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan in Almaty and the Atameken branch in Almaty."

Diplomats from Astana: EU Ambassador to Kazakhstan - Kestutis Jankauskas and Swedish Ambassador to Kazakhstan - Eva Polano  took part in the celebration together with the local representatives of culture, education, the representatives of lithuanian and ukrainian diaspora, members diplomatic corps.

 The guests of the event had the possibility to view the exhibition named "Legends of Lithuanian villages" created by the Lithuanian folk artist, master of paper cut-outs - Klaidas Navickas. In a specially dedicated exhibition, they also could to get know and taste the Lithuanian drinks produced by the well-known companies "Pakruojo dvaras", "Lietuviskas midus" and "Svyturys", Lithuanian cheese and cheeses produced by "Dziugas", "Vilvi". The festive mood was created by the improvisations of local jazz musicians and performances of Lithuanian dancers Sandra Kaziulytė and Andrey Novikov.
