The Consulates General of Lithuania and Poland in Almaty jointly commemorated the second anniversary of Ukraine's resistance to Russian aggression

On March 6, 2024 joint event of the General Consulates of the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Poland in Almaty, dedicated to commemorate the second anniversary of Ukraine's resistance to Russian aggression, was held. During the event, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Ukrainian public, local cultural and public figures indifferent to Ukraine, had the opportunity to view 2 exhibitions: "Is Ukraine the last stop on the path of the occupiers?" and "Mom, I don't want war".

Exhibition "Is Ukraine the last stop on the path of the occupiers?" shows the consequences of the war caused by Russia, which destroys people's lives and the country's infrastructure. The exhibition consists of 1 Lithuanian and 7 Ukrainian photographers works, which are displayed outside on the fences that protect the territory of the Lithuanian Consulate. The project was realized in collaboration with the festival "Odesa Photo Days Festival" and photographer Matas Vaisnoras. The symbolic fee and voluntarily donated funds for the work of Ukrainian photographers by mutual consent were transferred to one of the authors of the photographs, who is now fighting on the battlefield.

The exhibition "Mom, I don't want war"compares the drawings of Polish and Ukrainian children after the Second World War (1945) and during the Russian invasion to Ukraine (2022). In both cases, children experience the same terrifying traumatic experiences. In children's drawings, experienced negative emotions are reflected, scars left by the war regardless of where and when it happened are shown.

In the premises of the General consulates the guests had the opportunity to communicate, listen to ukrainian music and speeches by diplomats. Opening the event the Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania, Gvidas Kerusauskas drew attention to the consequences of the war and the fact that, if the Ukraine will be defeated, such a fate could befall to any of the aggressor state neighboring countries. In his speech, the Consul General also noted that democratic changes to change the aggressive Russia are on demand. One of those democratic ideas bearers was dissident Alexey Navalny, who died in a Russian prison under unclear circumstances. Although some of his statements regarding Ukraine were controversial, he and other currently inprisoned dissidents were, are, and will be important factors in future democratic changes of Russia.

General consul of the Republic of Poland - prof. hab. dr. Yuzef Taymanovskiy emphasized the consequences of war and crimes committed by Russia against Ukraine, its people, especially children. According to him, we should all provide maximum support in order to achieve the victory of Ukraine, as well as for the creators and executors of this war to hear the verdict of the Court.
